Mary Kay and Sports Clips Haircuts Spreads Some Holiday Cheer

During the season of giving, Mary Kay cosmetics brand and Sports Clips Haircuts are spreading holiday cheer through donating to some wonderful foundations. Mary Kay gave its annual donation of $3 million to TODAY's Holiday Toy and Gift Drive, while Sports Clips Haircuts donated $1.25 million to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. Foundation to support active-duty U.S. service members' and veterans' scholarships through the Help A Hero program.
The program of TODAY’s Holiday Toy and Gift Drive provides toys, books, clothing and other essentials for impoverished children and teenagers but has also expanded to include gifts that children can give to their parents. Help A Hero began as an initiative between Sports Clips and the VFW to provide phone calls home for deployed and hospitalized service members and veterans. To date, more than 900 VFW-administered scholarships have been awarded to qualified, active-duty military and veterans who wish to pursue college degrees and vocational certifications.
"Mary Kay Ash founded our Company on the Golden Rule and emphasized the importance of giving back. It is part of the Mary Kay heritage, and we are honored to continue the Company's legacy of making a difference through this program and many others," said Kirsten Gappelberg, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability for Mary Kay Inc.
"Saying 'thank you' in this way to our very-deserving military takes the hard work of team members and our generous, supportive clients and product partners. We are grateful and humbled in making this donation," says sports Clips Founder and CEO Gordon Logan, a U.S. Air Force veteran and Life member of the VFW.
